Ringside Competition Boxing Headguard Review
In this article, we will talk about one of the most well-rated boxing headgears on the market – Ringside Competition Headgear.
This product is sold in two different variations – with or without cheeks. Here, we are reviewing the no-cheeks option. However, all of the things we talk about are true for the other variant as well.
About Ringside as a brand
Ringside is one of the pioneers in combat sports equipment industry. Over the years they have been proven to manufacture quality gear for a good price.
From gloves and shoes to boxing rings, Ringside is one of the most trusted producers of boxing equipment.
Ringside Competition Headgear

- A top quality laminated foam system
- The latest protective advancements.
- Contoured design
- USA Boxing approved
Ringside made this headgear according to the USA Boxing Specifications. That being said, it is perfect both for sparring and amateur competition.
You are probably wondering which variant you should choose – with or without cheeks?
Our recommendation is to go for the no-cheeks option. For the simple reason that the cheeks on the headgear can interfere your vision.
By the way, you might think that the variant with cheeks offers better protection. However, this area of the face is not so vulnerable and injuries in that part are rare.
Let’s continue with the design.
As already mentioned, the headgear features 100% genuine leather inside and outside which is something that stands apart from the other headguards on the market. Most of the headgears use leather only on the outside and use something like suede or some soft material inside.
As a result, this material absorbs the sweat and the headgear starts smelling after continuous use. On the other hand, the leather construction of Ringside Competition Headgear doesn’t absorb the sweat and it’s very easy to clean – you can just wipe it out.
There is also a very soft inner layer that helps to make the headgear feel very comfortable.
Another thing we particularly liked about this headgear is the double velcro strap on the back of the head. Because of this, you are guaranteed to have a perfect, secure fit without shifting around. The back cushion is also held down with elastic on both sides, which makes it one of the best designs we’ve ever reviewed.
Protection & Padding
First of all, the back, sides and the forehead are very well padded and protected. However, there is a more exposure around the mouth, nose, cheeks, and the chin, due to the fact this headgear is used in competition.
This headgear is more for the people that like lightweight headgear without interrupting their vision.
Overall the protection that the Ringside Headgear delivers is pretty good. Of course, if you are looking for something more padded and bulky you can check out our Venum Challenger 2.0 Review.
Quality & Durability
No need to say that the quality of this product is top-notch. The leather is thick and durable – definitely something that will last long. Also, it holds up pretty well in MMA sparring, too, which makes it a perfect all-purpose headgear.
You can find this headgear for about 55-60$ which is a pretty good deal considering the great quality. Especially, if you intend to participate in competitions. Nothing better than using a USA boxing approved headgear to help you prepare for a fight.
