About the Fairtex brand
Fairtex is a Thailand muay thai, boxing, and mixed martial arts brand that was founded in Bankok in 1971. They established themselves as one of the best manufacturers of muay thai equipment and now their fighting gear is used all around the world.
About the gloves

The BGV1’s is one of the most popular Fairtex products made specifically for Muay Thai training.
These gloves are sold as 4 different size variants – 10oz, 12oz, 14oz, and 16oz. However, they tend to be heavier than the labeled weight. For example, 14oz version may weight close to 16oz, and the 16oz version may weight around 18oz.
They are also very small and compact compared to gloves of the same weight. The reason for this is the padding is super dense and stiff. Fairtex BGV1 is definitely a punchers gloves.
Protection
Due to the Thai style of these gloves, they have less protection on the knuckle area and more protection on the back of the hand. The reason for that is to better block kicks and not hurting your hand.
The wrist supports is very good and BGV1s velcro is probably one of the best. Actually, it is so strong that it can be hard to get it off.
The padding itself is very stiff and dense, as already stated, and it requires a long break in period. If you plan on using these gloves for sparring make sure to break them in before punching someone in the face.
Because of the Thai style, Fairtex implemented a straight thumb and no grip bar inside the glove. This is a plus when practicing Muay Thai. However, for some boxers may not like it.
Quality
Handmade gear is usually top notch and that is exactly the case with the Fairtex BGV1s. The leather has a nice texture and it’s thick and good-looking. Stitching, padding, leather – everything is top notch quality in these gloves.
Comfort
BGV1 has a large hand compartment compared to the other gloves. In combination with the stiff padding wearing a hand-wraps is an absolute must.

There are some features that may turn off some people and a plus for others. Like:
- Velcro is so strong, something it’s hard to undo
- Lack of grip bar

You can find Fairtex BGV1 for 70$ which is an incredible deal considering the quality and durability of these gloves. They are one of the best gloves for this price. However, make sure you are okay with the pros and cons we listed above.
