Everlast Omniflex Review

Want to work on both the power and the speed of your punches but don’t have enough space at home to have both a heavy and a speed bag? Well, if so, we have a product that may interest you!

In this article, we are going to review Everlast Omniflex, a pretty interesting freestanding boxing bag that combines in it the features of a heavy bag and a speed bag. We will go through its features, advantages, and disadvantages so you get an idea of what it is and whether or not you should buy it.

Let’s get started with our Everlast Omniflex review!

Freestanding design

Everlast Omniflex features a freestanding design that makes it a suitable choice for home use. You don’t need to set up any hangers or mounting attachments for this heavy bag, you just put it anywhere you deem appropriate and train.

While you can’t easily reposition a hanging heavy bag, the Everlast Omniflex is relatively easy to transport. We say “relatively” since it has got some weight to it, especially when filled with sand or water, but moving it from place to place should be much easier than it would be with hanging boxing bags.

Omni flex neck

The main feature of the Omniflex free standing punching bag is its Omni flex neck. The flexible neck is designed to absorb impacts, reduce the base movement, and improve the stability of the heavy bag.

On the other hand, the swinging motion of the neck makes this freestanding heavy bag fairly suitable for parrying and speed work. The neck flexes quite a lot and has a wide range of motion, so you would need to make sure to put it in a relatively free area so you don’t damage anything.

In a sense, you could say that this product is a mix of a heavy and a speed bag, which makes it a great choice for those who want to have both but don’t have enough free space for them.

A thing that may compromise the stability of this freestanding heavy bag is the fact that the bag stands quite high above the ground due to the length of the neck.

This could make the bag more prone to tipping over from impacts, though you could fill its plastic base with water or sand for increased stability.

Shock-absorbent foam bag

The bag is filled with soft shock-absorbent foam, which should make the punches easy on the hands. This is the thing that could make this heavy bag very suitable for beginners who don’t have a proper punching technique yet, as well as for experienced boxers who aren’t looking for a hard punching bag.

The height of the bag can be adjusted between 59 and 67 inches from the ground. To be fair, 67 inches of height isn’t that much, so the height of this bag may not be sufficient for tall individuals.

It should also be noted that the Everlast Omniflex may not be suitable for kicking, at least not for everyone. As we already mentioned, the bag is seated on the long omni flex neck, which would probably limit the kicking opportunities for those who aren’t flexible enough to do high kicks.

Fillable plastic base

The Everlast Omniflex free standing heavy bag features a plastic base that could be filled with either water or sand. In fact, you should definitely fill the base to increase the stability of the heavy bag.

The heavy bag will weigh about 130 pounds when filled with water and about 200 pounds when filled with sand. You should probably fill the base with sand, preferably in bags, because it will be less messy than just sand or even water.

Everlast Omniflex free standing heavy bag is more of a low-end freestanding heavy bag, though we can’t say that it is cheap. However, it is much less expensive than high-end freestanding heavy bags, which should make it more suitable for home use.

Can you use this freestanding heavy bag without filling it with sand or water?

You could, but we would strongly recommend you to do that since the additional one – two hundred pounds would definitely make the heavy bag much more stable.

If you don’t have the opportunity to fill the base of the bag with water or sand, you could try to just tie the base of the bag to something sturdy. You would just need to make that you do that in a safe location so you don’t break anything.

Can the flex of the neck be adjusted?

Everlast Omniflex free standing heavy bag’s flex can’t be adjusted. However, you could try to play with the height settings of the bag since the neck may flex the most when the bag is at its highest setting.

Would this heavy bag be suitable for MMA fighters or kickboxers?

Not really: because the bag stands high above the ground, you won’t be able to do low kicks on it. If you are okay with that, then you should be able to train your punches and medium and high kicks on this bag.

Everlast Omniflex free standing heavy bag is a pretty interesting product. For a fairly affordable price, it allows you to train your punching and kicking technique, as well as speed. Pretty much, this bag combines in itself a speed bag and a heavy bag.

That being said, you should keep in mind that this bag isn’t designed to fully replace heavy bags or speed bags. It won’t ever deliver either the resistance of heavy bags nor the speed of speed bags.

On one hand, this may make Everlast Omniflex free standing heavy bag not very suitable for professional and experienced fighters. On the other, a beginner or just a casual boxer would probably benefit from this freestanding heavy bag a lot.

However, if you liked this bag whether you are a beginner or an experienced fighter, you probably should buy it! After all, it is up to you to decide what to buy and what not to buy.
